from Mullingar, Co Westmeath Tractor Pulling Championships Sunday
24th July 2005:
Tractors
old and new were among the winners of the Tractor Pulling competition
held at the Mullingar Agricultural show on Sunday 10th July.
Donal
Egan from Co. Offaly, a long time tractor puller, proved in the
5.5 Tonne class, that you don't need to be driving the newest model
to win. Driving a '95 Same Antares 110 his best pull was 56.82m.
In second place was fellow Offaly man Rory Healion in a '02 New
Holland TM125 with a pull of 49.66m.
Ivor
McDonald, Co. Offaly, was the winner of the 6.5 Tonne class, finishing
well ahead of the field in his '02 New Holland TM150 with a best
pull of 65.60m. James Geoghan, Co. Westmeath came in second in his
'04 Valtra T130 with a best pull of 48.58m.
Vincent
Smith, Co. Meath, achieved the first Full Pull of the day in the
7.5 Tonne class. He was driving a '05 Fendt Vario 818. In second
place was Owen Maher, Co Meath who had a best pull of 64.04m in
his '05 Valtra T190.
Dublin
men Kenny Quaile and Brendan Guinan went home happy after qualifying
for the All-Ireland finals in both the 9 Tonne and 11.5 Tonne classes
in the same '05 John Deere 8520. Both classes went to pull-offs
with Kenny Quaile emerging the winner each time. He pulled 57.28m
in the 9 Tonne class, just ahead of Brendan Guinan's 56.88m, and
61.26m in the 11.5 Tonne, against Guinan's 59.71m.
