Tractor Pulling Championships results:

The 2005 Tractor Pulling season also got off to a good start with Tractor Pulling enthusiasts from all corners of the country gathered in the village of Kilconly, Tuam, Co Galway as over 40 drivers competed in the 5 weight categories of the 2005 Connaught Open Tractor Pulling championships.

The first category of the day was the 5.5 Tonne class, which was won by Rory Healion, Tullamore Co. Offaly who achieved a full pull in his New Holland TM 125. In second place was Donegal man Johnny Hegarty in a Massey Ferguson 6280 with a pull of 59.69m.

Tractor Pulling veteran Daniel O'Connell, Banagher, Co. Offaly was the winner of the 6.5 Tonne class in a Case MX 135, with a pull of 73.12m in the pull-off. Coming in a very close second was Darren Carney, Castlebar, Co. Mayo with a pull of 72.97. He was driving a John Deere 6620.

The 7.5 Tonne class also went to a pull-off, with Pa McHugh, Dunmore, Co. Galway, emerging the winner with a pull of 88.47m in his Case CVX 1190. In second place was Martin Whyte, Naul, Co. Dublin in a New Holland TM155, with a pull of 86.65m.

Pa McHugh was forced into another Pull Off in the 9 Tonne class, again facing the two Dublin men, Martin Whyte and Charles Hutchinson, who were this time driving the new New Holland TVT 190. But it was Pa McHugh's Case that won out with a pull of 51.10m, with Charles Hutchinson coming in second with a pull of 34.24m.

Shane Ruttle, Askeaton, Co. Limerick won the heavyweight 11.5 Tonne class in his Case, beating out Nigel Healion, Tullamore, Co. Offaly, in a Case 7250, with a pull of 61.62m, against Healion's 31.23m.
