Results
from the Donegal Tractor Pulling Championships Saturday 25th June
2005:
Ten
more qualifiers for the 2005 All Ireland tractor pulling finals
were selected at the Finn Valley show in Donegal on Saturday 25th
June. The fine weather saw huge crowds turn out to watch 46 drivers
compete in the 5 weight classes.
Track
conditions dictated a slightly different running order from usual,
so the day started with the under 7 ½ tonne class, which was won
by Brian Laird in a New Holland TM135 with a best pull of 77 metres.
He was followed in second place by Kenneth Hegarty in a Massey Ferguson
6485, and in third, Jonathan Hegarty in a Massey Ferguson 6290.
Next
was the heavily competed 9 Tonne class, which was won by Thomas
Hetherington in a Case 7220 with a best pull of 80m. In second place
was William Wauchope in a John Deere 7710 with a pull of 78.91m.
Robert Craig, driving a John Deere 7810, came in third with a pull
of 75.12m.
Massey
Ferguson drivers took first, second, and third places in the under
5 ½ Tonne class. Terence Hegarty was the winner in a Massey Ferguson
6280 with a pull of 61.53m, followed by Kevin Gallagher who got
a pull of 59.89m in the same tractor. In third place was Brian Doherty
in a Massey Ferguson 6290 with a pull of 45.57m.
Brian
Laird was the winner of the 6 ½ Tonne class in a New Holland TM135
with a pull of 70.15m. Brian Doherty came in second with a pull
of 67.67 in a Fendt Favorit 716. In third place was Ian Craig who
had a pull of 66.13m in a John Deere 6910.
The
final class of the day was the eagerly awaited 11 ½ Tonne class
and proved to be worth waiting for as Alwyn Younge achieved the
only full pull of the day in his Fendt Favorit 926. Karl McElhinney
came in second in a Fendt Vario 930 with a pull of 83.87m, and in
third place was Christopher Gibbons in a 260 Diamond with a pull
of 80.17m.
