Clonakilty
Agricultural Show Sunday 12th June 2005:
The
perfect silage-making weather didn't prevent tractor pulling enthusiasts
from coming to compete in front of the large crowds that attended
Clonakilty Agricultural show on Sunday 12th June. They were competing
for the honour of being crowned West Cork tractor pulling Champions
and for a place in the All Ireland finals, which will be held later
in the summer.
Michael
O'Regan proved unbeatable in his 02 Valtra 8950 as he took the honours
in the 6.5 tonne, 7.5 tonne, and 9 tonne classes. They were by no
means easily won victories though, particularly in the 6.5 tonne
class where two pull-offs were required to determine the eventual
winners. O'Regan's final pull was 53.08m, just ahead of Suzanne
McCarthy who was driving a Case CS150. Suzanne became the first
female All-Ireland qualifier of 2005 with a pull of 50.31m, just
scraping past Trevor Bryan who achieved a pull of 50.26m in the
same tractor.
The
other female competitor of the day, Lorna Helen, put up a good fight
in the 7.5 tonne class in a John Deere, but failed to make an impact
in the top spots. Michael O'Regan came first in the Valtra with
a pull of 54.61m. In second place, driving the same Valtra, was
William Harrington, with a pull of 49.24. Patrick McCarthy took
3rd place in a New Holland with a pull of 47.54m.
Chris
O'Leary's JCB Fastrac proved no match at all for the Valtra in the
9 Tonne class, taking second place with a pull of 46.34m.
